The Cover Poetry Slam is an ideal event for an educational exercise or an original and dynamic presentation of a book of poetry.
A poetry slam is a show that consists of a performance poetry competition, which attracts huge audiences of young people and is now widespread worldwide. Breaking one of the rules of the standard format, which stipulates that only original texts can be performed on stage, the poets give voice to poems composed by other authors as if they were covers. The audience is tasked with choosing the best performance.
In 2019, Salone del Libro & Fondazione Merz hosted the cover poetry slam Una sola volta aveva visto il mare (He had seen the sea only once) curated by Eleonora Fisco and the Anime Arabe group for the presentation of the anthology of Arabic poems In guerra non mi cercate (Don’t look for me in war), published by Le Monnier, edited by Oriana Capezio, Elena Chiti, Francesca M. Corrao, and Simone Sibilio.
